Funny celebrants are out there. Often I see people posting on Facebook that they are looking for a “funny celebrant”. But is making your ceremony into a joke what you really want? I think you have to be careful here and balance is the key.
I certainly like to add a few sprinklings of humour through my ceremonies, but sometimes less is more. I have seen a celebrant (who shall remain anonymous) do an almost 15 minute stand up performance before getting to the ceremony itself and then dropped so many jokes through the ceremony (many inappropriate jokes) that had the guests (who started laughing at the beginning) groaning with embarrassment for the couple by the end.
My ceremonies are light-hearted, with sprinklings of humour but also meaningful and heart-felt. It’s all about balance! You might think it’s great on the day, but as the years go on you may look back on your ceremony as just a big joke.
If you hire me as your MC for your reception, I can be as funny as you want me to be because that’s the part of the day to party and celebrate your marriage. But your marriage ceremony itself isn’t a joke. It’s the only part of the day that IS serious. You are making a legal commitment to each other.
Reading this, you might think I’m a bit of a “stick in the mud”, and if you have been looking for funny celebrants, that’s fine and maybe suits your personality and style, but it’s just not me.
I have done my fair share of stand up comedy in pubs and clubs, so I can bring the “funny” to your reception if that is what you are looking for. I tailor my service to suit each and every client. Some clients want humour, some don’t. I work with you but balance it out by always remembering the serious side of the commitment being made.
If you are looking for a celebrant, I welcome you to contact me and arrange an obligation free meeting to have a chat to see if I match your style.
Warmly,
